The Definitve Sherlock Holmes
My favorite Interpretations of Holmes and Watson (besides Jeremy and Burke/Hardwicke)

Since this website is called Jeremy Brett, the Definitive Sherlock Holmes, I thought it would be pretty cool to have a page dedicated to other interpretations of the famous friends.

"Holmes, what the devil are you talking about?"

One of the greatest pairs to ever portray the great detective and his faithful friend and sidekick.

One of the famous pairs, Mr. Basil Rathbone (left, Sherlock Holmes) and Mr. Nigel Bruce (right, Watson). When people think of Sherlock Holmes in the golden age (well the forties and fifties) these two names are

synonymous with Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson. You ask any person who grew up in the forties who Sherlock Holmes is and guaranteed they'll say Basil Rathbone. The same can be said for Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.

"I've done it Watson! I've done it!"*

In my opinion, one of the greatest portrayals of Holmes and Watson!

In the 1979 movie, Murder by Decree the great detective and his loyal friend were portrayed by Christopher Plummer (Holmes) and James Mason (Watson).
In my opinion, this dynamic duo is second to Mr. Brett and Burke/Hardwicke. Mr. Plummer makes his Sherlock Holmes human and touchable. Mr. Mason is a wonderful Watson, a mix between Nigel Bruce and David Burke, making him a gem to watch. All in all they are my second favorite Holmes and Watson.
